Dear Families,
This morning we had a fire drill. (Shubham)
We discussed how writing an email is a fast way to communicate with people using technology.
We wrote our last teaching book in writing workshop to show what we learned about this kind of writing.
We are starting to talk about calendars and time in math. (Justin)
We visited Ms. Clay this afternoon. (Miriam)
Note:
NPE's mini-relay is canceled tomorrow due to weather. It will be made up at another time.

We put the events from the story Peter's Chair in the correct order. (Isabel)
We celebrated in writing workshop since it was our last day of our Information writing unit. (Alyssa)
In folders are other stories your child wrote over the course of this unit. You can keep these at home.
We took our test on money!(Magda)
I was so proud of our class! They did so well and really seemed to enjoy showing me how much they learned!

We talked about our Digestive System!

Today we worked on finding coins needed to make a certain amount in math.
We went to Music in the gym! (Jack)

We learned some interesting facts about frogs in our Scholastic News.
We are trying to use some features authors use in their teaching books in our teaching books! Our Scholastic News gave us some good ideas!
We worked on counting money in math. Please continue to practice this skill at home if you noticed your child had difficulty on their homework this week.
We went to PE.
We ended the day singing with our friends at Hootenanny!

We had a visit from an"Art Goes Home" representative that introduced us to different famous paintings.
We sorted money by their value to make it easier to count. (Journi)

Today we worked on our teaching stories in writing workshop.
We practiced counting groups of money. (Chance)
We went to Library. (Griffin)
We talked more about our skeleton and compared our skeleton to the skeletons of animals.
We even learned the difference between some vertebrate and invertebrate animals. (Justin)

Note:
If you notice your child is having trouble counting money, please practice this skill. Using real money from a piggy bank or a wallet would be a great way to practice counting different combinations of coins together and making sure they are identifying coins correctly. In class, students are using a hundreds chart to count larger amounts of money.

We got to hear the high school's jazz band play this morning. The kids really enjoyed seeing the high school students and their instruments!
We talked about the Statue of Liberty and how it is an important US symbol.
We practiced counting groups of money!
We checked out new books in Library.
We went to Ms. Clay's class for another measurement activity.

Wear green tomorrow! It is also an early dismissal day!

We talked about ways we can improve our teaching books by writing good introductions and conclusions. (Shubham)
We learned more about pennies, nickels, and dimes! (Jack)

We ended the day comparing and measuring with Ms. Clay!

We learned how to plan and write chapters in our teaching stories.
We used tally charts to make more graphs!
We went to PE.
We went to Ms. Clay's class this afternoon and had our first lesson on comparing and measuring!

NPE raised $14,198 for Jump Rope for Heart this year! Thanks to all that contributed to this amazing fundraiser!

We looked at the things the author did to write a good teaching story like the ones we are working on in writing workshop!
We sorted data and made picture graphs in math.
Today we went to Music.(Timmy)
We watched the story Horton Hears a Who and made elephant ears! (Magda)
If your child wants to wear gray tomorrow and their ears they could be Horton!
Reminders:
*Tonight is Read Across America night at NPE! Students that come dressed tonight as a book character will get a NEW book!
*Tomorrow students can come to school dressed as their favorite book character also!

In writing workshop, we used our checklists to see what we need to add to our teaching stories.
We made a graph using gold fish in math and heard the story One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.
We went to PE.
We heard the Dr. Seuss story The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins and made a hat!

*Read Across America Night at NPE is Thursday @6:30. Hope you and your families can attend! All students that go dressed as a book character will get a FREE NEW book. All students will get at least 2 more books (some new, most used) at the book giveaway after the readings.
