Dear Families,
We read the story The Class Pet and saw how the classes mouse changed as it grew! (Miriam)
We put events from the Groundhog Legend in order!
We talked about measuring lengths with objects in math. (Shubham)
We went to Library! (Jack)
We made our predictions whether the groundhog will see his shadow or not! (Nick)

Note:
I will be at a teacher in-service tomorrow. For that reason please make sure to call the office or send a note if there is a dismissal change. I will not be at school to check my email or send an email about our day. This is what I have planned for the kids to do tomorrow:
Build "or" words.
Review reading skills using the story "Six Wishes".
Pretend to be a groundhog and write about your day!
Practice comparing length in math.
Go to Art.
Make a groundhog puppet.
*Please have conversations about school behavior expectations. I know our substitute would appreciate it. Thanks so much!

We got to write our last opinion story in writing workshop to see how much we have improved!
We learned how to use a starting line to help us see what is longest and shortest. (Julien)

Dear Families,
I told the kids I would send you our email since we ran out of time due to Hootenanny!
We read another Scholastic News today about polar bears! It was neat to read how the cubs learn from their moms as they grow.
We celebrated how our opinions stories have improved since we started our opinion unit last month. (Writing workshop folders were cleaned out so our take home folders are full today. These stories can be kept at home!)
We compared the length of 5 toys in math.
Today we went to PE.
It was a fun crazy hair day!

Reminders:
*Report cards are available today after 4pm. I've heard there have been some problems with them already. If there is a problem with your report card, please let me know so I can follow up on Monday.
*If you have toilet paper rolls (without paper) I'd love to collect a class set of 21 for a craft I want to do if time permits. Please send any you may have.

We read the story The Ugly Duckling and discussed how the duckling changed as she grew up! (Travis)
In writing workshop, we finished revising our favorite opinion story.
Today we compared the length of 2 or more things in math. (Jasmin)
We went to Art. (Malcolm)
We talked about healthy snack options. (Matilda)

*Tomorrow is crazy hair day!
*Student Council will be selling NPE Hoodies starting today until Feb. 10. They cost $18. See email for the order form. I will send a paper copy tomorrow in folders also. 
*Tomorrow is last day to order Scholastic Books this month!

We put events from the story Ruby in Her Own Time in order! (Addie)
We are using our opinion checklists to help us revise our stories.
We talked about length in math today! (Griffin)
We went to Library! (Justin)
We found foods that belong in each food group. (Chance)

Reminders:
*It has been brought to my attention from the monitors in the morning and at dismissal that our kids are still bringing "toys" (Shopkins, LEGO blocks, sports cards, Pokemon cards...) and it starting to cause problems. I would appreciate more conversations and reminders that these things need to stay home. Thank you so much for your help with this matter. 
*Friday is the last day to order Scholastic books if interested!

We used writing workshop today to write more stories! (Nick)
We went outside this morning. (Isabel)
We practiced more subtracting. (Dallin)
We talked about more places Traveling Teddy has been in America! (Jack)
In Library today our class gave Mrs. Liacouras a difficult time. Instead of going out for extra recess we stayed in and talked about school expectations. Thank you for continuing these conversations at home.

Dear Families,
This afternoon we went to NPE's Winter Concert so our afternoon dismissal time was quite hectic and we did not get to eat our snack. 
We started the morning in the Tech Lab. It is so nice to see the kids feeling more comfortable logging on and gaining confidence!
We read the story Mr. George Baker which was a sweet book explaining how places and people change over time!
We used our writing workshop time to add details to our stories.
We practiced another strategy we can use to subtract numbers in math.
It was a good day!

We got new spelling booklets today! 
Our spelling words this week have y at the end that makes a long e or long i sound! (Timmy)
We did "writing checkups" with our writing partners in writing workshop to see how we can make our stories better!
We are learning new strategies we can use to subtract big numbers. (Robby)
We went to PE. (Alyssa)
We mapped some more places our Traveling Teddy has gone in the United States! (Miriam)

We read a story about an ant community. It has been fun comparing insect communities to communities of people this week.
In writing we worked on adding a catchy introduction to get our readers attention!
In math we reviewed how to make doubles in a number sentence. (Julien)

After hearing a story about Martin Luther King we made hand prints for our bulletin board. (Justin)

Today was a great BUSY day!
We took our spelling test this morning.
We talked about reviews writers write to inform people of things and places. It was neat to see how these writers wrote to convince us of their opinions!
We reviewed how to use number bonds in number sentences!
We went to Hootenanny this afternoon!

Notes;
*Students will need a sack lunch when we go on our MLK field trip next Friday. (Please no lunch boxes.)
*In folders, you will find information about our January reading project called "Build a Snowman". When a winter book is read at home please record it on their reading log. When logs are brought to school, students will build their snowman. One book read gives them a piece to add to their snowman! I hope your child enjoys this project!
