Dear Families,
This morning we had fun talking about our names! It was really neat to hear all the stories.
In writing workshop, we wrote a true story from our lives.
We reviewed for our math test tomorrow!
We went to Library but we did not get a new book. We are no longer checking out books in Library. 
If you have any library books at home, please return at your earliest convenience.
We had our last States of Matter lesson with Mrs. Martorelli.

Dear Families,
This morning we went to the Tech Lab and played math bingo games for m day! (Jasmin)
We celebrated our writing today in writing workshop with our friends! (Travis)
We practiced solving word problems in math.

Dear Families,
This morning we took our last Spelling test in first grade!
We finished editing our stories in writing workshop while eating our lollipops for L day!
We practiced solving addition and subtraction word problems in math.
We saw Mr. B in the Music room today.
We ended the day singing at Hootenanny!
Have a great 4 day weekend!

We will do our Traveling Teddy wrap up activities next week. Please return Teddy to school if you haven't done so already.

Dear Families,
We went to the Choral Concert this morning. (Miriam)
We wrote about kites today for k day! (Dallin)
We played a game with cubes to practice adding 3 digits together in math. (Shubham)
We went to Art but did not get to plant in the garden since it was raining. (Robby)
We ended the day writing a story about tadpoles or frogs!

*Complete page 62 for math homework tonight.
*Tomorrow is the last day to order books from Scholastic this year!
*If you are interested in ordering 2nd grade supplies, information is coming home today in folders.

Dear Families,
We had fun jumping around today for j day!
We worked on our "Meet the Author" page in writing workshop. 
It was really cute to see what the kids had to say about themselves!
We practiced different ways we could add 3 numbers together in math.
We went to Library and checked out new books
We ended the day with Mrs. Martorelli!

Please complete pg 61 for math homework tonight. We will complete pg 62 for homework tomorrow!

May 23

Dear Families,
This morning we went to the Tech Lab. (Griffin)
We read the story The Stone Garden and discussed the main idea of the story.
We put our fingers in ink and made a fingerprint picture for i day! (Chance)
We played Race to Zero in math to help us practice borrowing from the tens place!
We went to Music!
We saw the 2nd grade performance this afternoon! (Julien)

Dear Families,
This week our spelling words start with the prefixes -un or -re! (Jack)
We started to edit our stories by checking our punctuation marks and adding details to our illustrations.
We played a game with our friends to help us practice double digit subtracting rules! (Magda)
We went to PE. (Timmy)
We went to Mrs. Matorelli's class this afternoon. (Nick)

We worked on our realistic fiction stories in writing workshop.

Dear Families,
We read about more inventions that make our lives easier! (Elvis)
For friendship day, we wrote about a friend and told them reasons why they're our friend! (Miriam)
In math we reviewed the steps we need to use to help us subtract with regrouping.
We went to Library. (Alyssa)
We put different solids in water to see if they would float in Mrs. Martorelli's class! (Isabel)

Reminder:
Complete pg. 58 for math homework if you haven't done so already! I am noticing mistakes being made due to not showing work. We reviewed this today so hopefully you'll see less confusion.

May 17

Dear Families,
This morning we went to the Tech Lab. (Justin)
We read a story about inventor Alexander Graham Bell. (Malcolm)
We met with our partners in writing workshop to help us find places we can add details to our stories.
In math, we practiced subtraction with regrouping. (Dallin)
We also estimated how many tiles were in a container! Some of us guessed the right number!
We went to NPE's Spring Instrumental Concert this afternoon! (Addie)
It was a nice day!

For math homework tonight, please complete pg. 57. Tomorrow we will complete pg. 58.

May 16

Dear Families,
We talked about the life cycle of a frog and put pictures of a frog's life cycle in order.
We went to Music since Mr. B was setting up for field day!
We practiced subtracting with regrouping in math. It is a new skill so it may take a little practice. Hang in there it will get easier!
We had a lot of fun at field day! I'm sure you will hear all about it!

We ended the day in Hootenanny!

We read the story Roy's Wheelchair and identified the simple machines in the story. (Matilda)
We practiced subtracting double digit numbers in math.
We went to Music. (Journi)
We ended the day with Mrs. Martorelli learning more about states of matter. (Shubham)
We enjoyed having our animals at school today!

Note:
*Field day is canceled tomorrow due to the weather! It is now scheduled for May 16th, next Tuesday.
*It was a bit of a rough day due to behavior.  I would really appreciate extra conversations at home about school expectations.

Dear Families,
We practiced making "oi" words with our letter cards.
We read the story Owlbert and wrote a retelling of the story.
We started subtracting double digit numbers without regrouping in math.
We went to Music.
Dr. Guron did a science activity with our class this afternoon. Thank you so much for arranging this activity for our class! Attached to our email is a parent handout from Dr. Guron.

Tomorrow is Second grade's healthy snack sale. Bring $1-2 if interested!

Dear Families,
We read about Orville and Wilbur Wright this morning. It was neat to learn how they invented the first airplane.
We are learning how simple machines make our lives easier!
In math we practiced adding double digit numbers with regrouping. (Robby)

Dear Families,
Our spelling words have the "oi" and "oy" pattern this week.
We investigated what makes realistic fiction realistic in writing workshop.
Today we practiced adding double digit numbers and regrouping in math. *Please review this at home for extra practice and to see if your child is starting in the ones place first!
We went to Library and got new books!
We made sure our maps were updated with the places Traveling Teddy recently visited! 
We ended the day looking at our new tadpoles! We will watch them grow.

We continued to revise one of our favorite fiction stories and shared it with our partners. (Miriam)
We practiced how to regroup ones into the tens place when adding large double digit numbers. (Jasmin)

We reflected on our acts of kindness and how these acts make others feel. (Griffin)

Dear Families,
We read the story Dot and Jabber and the Acorn Mystery. We discussed how Dot and Jabber solved their mystery by using clues.
In writing workshop, we talked about ways we could add dialogue in our stories.
We worked on adding two digit numbers without regrouping in math. 
We went to Library and got to buy at the book fair.
We had a lesson with Mrs. DeSanctis this afternoon about self-esteem.
