Today was such a nice day saying our goodbyes! Again, thanks for all the support this year. This class is very special to me and I'll take into next year some great memories! Have an amazing summer and I look forward to seeing you next year at NPE!

Dear Families,
Today was a productive day of cleaning for X day! Backpacks are pretty full. Please make sure to empty backpacks tonight to make room for other things that may still come home!
Don't forget our field trip is tomorrow so wear our NPE aqua shirts or a blue shirt and get plenty of rest! Extra conversations about behavior are appreciated.
Thank you so much for the positive comments I have been receiving regarding my exciting "news" of continuing my journey at NPE next year as a 4th grade teacher! I am so happy I will be able to see all of our kids next year!

We played a game in math to help us practice adding using our mental strategies.

We went to Music since Mr. B was setting up for field day!

We talked more about our skeleton and compared our skeleton to the skeletons of animals.
We even learned the difference between some vertebrate and invertebrate animals. (Justin)

If you notice your child is having trouble counting money, please practice this skill. Using real money from a piggy bank or a wallet would be a great way to practice counting different combinations of coins together and making sure they are identifying coins correctly. In class, students are using a hundreds chart to count larger amounts of money.

We learned how to plan and write chapters in our teaching stories.
We used tally charts to make more graphs!
We went to PE.
We went to Ms. Clay's class this afternoon and had our first lesson on comparing and measuring!
Note:
NPE raised $14,198 for Jump Rope for Heart this year! Thanks to all that contributed to this amazing fundraiser!

We looked at the things the author did to write a good teaching story like the ones we are working on in writing workshop!

We watched the story Horton Hears a Who and made elephant ears! (Magda)
If your child wants to wear gray tomorrow and their ears they could be Horton!

We reviewed the major events from the story Mama's Birthday Present.
In writing workshop, we used our checklists to see what we need to add to our teaching stories.
We made a graph using gold fish in math and heard the story One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.
We went to PE.
We heard the Dr. Seuss story The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins and made a hat!

Today we heard the story Home Sweet Home and practiced drawing conclusions.
We reviewed strategies we can use when we are having trouble spelling words in writing workshop. (Malcolm)
We are comparing the weight of objects in math. (Robby)
We went to Art. (Alyssa)
We learned facts about Abraham Lincoln. (Nick)
Note:
I have noticed more of our kids struggling with their spelling words over the last few weeks. Spelling words are getting more difficult so extra practice at home may be needed. Students have many opportunities to practice their words at school too. Students are put into groups based on our assessments. I will be re-evaluating spelling groups before we begin our next unit. This can be discussed at our upcoming conference together.

We earned a class celebration today so tomorrow our class voted on bringing a favorite stuff animal to school. Please make sure it can fit in their backpacks!

We reviewed the 4 steps we will use to write teaching books and the questions our readers may have to help us write more information in our stories.
We reviewed how to use a balance beam to talk about the weight of objects in math.
We went to Art.

*In the event that we are not at school tomorrow due to snow, our 100th day would be Monday so 100 year old clothes would not be worn on Friday. If we are at school tomorrow, Friday will still be our 100th day!
*If you are missing a Jump Rope for Heart permission slip I will send extras when Mr. B gives me more and lets me know who he is missing one from--thanks!

Dear Families,
Our spelling words this week end with -es! (Elvis)
We got to write our last opinion story in writing workshop to see how much we have improved!
We learned how to use a starting line to help us see what is longest and shortest. (Julien)
We went to Music! (Magda)
We talked about groundhogs this afternoon. (Timmy)
